Clarion Camping exists for one reason: the trips that go wrong almost never go wrong because of the big stuff.

Nobody's weekend gets ruined by the wrong tent brand. It gets ruined because a headlamp died forty minutes after dark, or a tarp let water through at the seam, or the stove wouldn't light while four people stood around getting cold and quiet. Small parts. Enormous consequences.

So that's the shelf we decided to stock — the unglamorous, high-consequence gear that quietly decides whether a weekend becomes a story you tell for years or one you'd rather not bring up.

What we actually promise

We're a small, independent shop. We don't own factories and we're not going to pretend otherwise. What we can control is how honestly we describe what we sell, and how easy we make it to change your mind.

We label specs as what they are

When a lumen count, a temperature rating, a weight, or a filtration figure comes from the manufacturer, we say manufacturer-rated — because that's what it is. We don't dress up a supplier spec sheet as a field test we didn't run. If you've shopped outdoor gear online before, you know how rare that sentence is.

Temperature ratings are not comfort guarantees

A 35°F sleeping bag rating is a survival-adjacent laboratory number, not a promise you'll sleep well at 35°F. We say so on the product page instead of letting you find out at 3am. The same goes for water filters (ours removes bacteria and protozoa — not viruses), stoves, and anything else where the gap between the spec and the reality can hurt.

Thirty days, no interrogation

Gear you can't hold in a store is a gamble. We'd rather carry that risk than ask you to. Take it out, use it, and if it isn't right, send it back within 30 days. No restocking fee, no essay about why.

Free over $70. A flat rate below that, shown before checkout. Nothing appears on the final screen that wasn't on the one before it.

Who we build for

Mostly families getting back outside after a few years of meaning to, and first-time campers who've been quietly overwhelmed by gear forums for months. If you've ever opened eleven browser tabs about sleeping pad R-values and closed all of them without buying anything, we built this store for you.

That's also why we publish Field Notes and keep a free resource hub. Not as content marketing filler — as the shortest path between "we should go camping" and actually going.
